Our Blueprint

ABOUT US

Aravalli is a non-profit and non-governmental organization aiming primarily to work towards protecting the ecology of one of the oldest mountain ranges of the world, the Aravali range. Allied to this central goal are three-fold goals, that are, preservation of art and culture, the promotion of sustainable development and the creation of sustainability related livelihoods. In sum, we desire to not reduce environmental concerns to merely the 5th June of every year but make it an everyday concern.

In this noble aim, we believe the arts, culture and heritage of India and of the Rajasthan state can be valuable. We do not see environment as a separate entity but intertwined with different aspects of life. The culture of making johad/baoris (ponds) is an important knowledge system of water-scarce states like Rajasthan. However, such knowledges are fast vanishing, and this organisation attempts to prevent the same.

THE CHALLENGE

  • Environmental Degradation: Climate change, deforestation, and biodiversity loss are accelerating. Indigenous ecosystems and wildlife habitats continue to shrink under unsustainable development pressure.

  • Cultural Erosion: India’s diverse traditional art forms, crafts, and cultural knowledge systems are disappearing due to negligence, lack of livelihood support, and lack of documentation.

  • Lack of Awareness: There is limited awareness, especially at the grassroots level, of the interdependence between environmental health and cultural continuity.

OUR VISION

India is at a pivotal moment where both its rich environmental and cultural legacies face serious threats. We envision a future in which these legacies are not only preserved but revitalized to serve as the foundation for a resilient, harmonious, and sustainable society.

Our long-term vision is to transform conservation and heritage preservation into a proactive, community-driven movement.

OUR APPROACH: THREE INTEGRATED CORE VERTICALS

A. Nature & Climate Action

  • Forest and biodiversity conservation projects through initiatives to plant trees in deforested areas and grow new forests.

  • Rehabilitation of degraded ecosystems

  • Community-based climate resilience programs by engaging diverse community members, including vulnerable groups such as women, youth, indigenous people and persons with disabilities.

  • Clean energy and sustainable living awareness campaigns through various communication channels including social media, public events, and educational sessions with schools, community groups and partnership with stakeholders.

B. Arts & Cultural Preservation

  • Revival and promotion of traditional Indian art forms (tribal, folk, classical)

  • Restoration and preservation of historical artworks and heritage sites

  • Livelihood programs for artisans and traditional knowledge holders

  • Cultural exchanges and documentation initiatives

C. Education & Outreach

  • Ecological and cultural education for youth

  • School and college engagement programs

  • Rural knowledge-sharing and awareness camps

  • Mobile exhibitions, workshops, and storytelling sessions
